music for david foster wallace
based on an entry in james o. incadenza's filmography
  a footnote from _infinite_jest_

kim had a brilliant idea- make a film score for one of the [fictional]
incadenza films as a tribute to dfw.

as i began working, i felt a strong desire to go very far out. it could have
been other currents in my life, but something about dfw and his sprawling novel
sent me further out.

while many of the film titles are evocative, i didn't feel like making a proper
soundtrack- all recurrent themes and external pacing. so i thought i'd make a
soundtrack for an experimental film, one of the 'untitled unfinished
unreleased' entries. that seemed so much more in line with the kinda music i
was tending to make anyway.

and since a lot of _infinite_jest_ takes place in and around boston, i thought
it a perfect opportunity to try to combine my interest in phonography with
electronic music.

the ambient sounds come from the public garden, the honk fest, and my
apartment.

the electronic sounds were all made on the nintendo ds.
